Just wondering how many people have advanced the timing on there N/T and what are the pro and cons,
Are the performance gains worth it,will it screw up my fuel mileage etc???
I dont want a radical change just a couple of degrees to give me a liitle more power.
I already have a full stainless exhaust,K&N ,Race wires and NGK plugs.plus a few other little mods here and there.

thanks

destrux did by 3 deg right now it appears he is having stalling probs (dono if it's related to that or not) I would PM him and ask...

Do not advance timing I repeat do not advance timing. It burns the tops of your pistons greatly decreasing the life of your engine. I learned the hard way.

Thats not realy true poeman. that is more a worse case scenario.
If you advance it too much its bad. You can advance it with no ill effects as long as you run higher octane gas and are careful with the advancement

okay now im hearing mixed reviews now, i hate that! lol, anyways, what's too much? right now i have it stock and how much could i advance it, and no worrys about the octane, i run 91 in my car... lmk thanks

ps. i wont ruin a piston like poeman will i?

I would run 92-3-4 if you were gonna advance it to be safe.

Ruin a piston? Not likely but possible
I dont recommend screing witht the timing unless you know what your doing with cars.

my dad runs 38 degrees in his race car on 114 octane

Oh the advancement didn't blow my piston but it did decrease the life. Nitrous ultimately blew a hole in it. Advancing the timing means that the gas is compressed before it is sparked giving it that extra power, this also does hurt the tops of your pistons, unless you have some after market ones of corse

Normal base spark timing is some degrees before TDC depending on the engine and when the ECU advances the timing the plugs fire even earlier (More degrees BTDC). The end of the compression stroke is at TDC, firing the plug then on our cars is considered retarded. Pun intended.
