Check this out. http://www.spiralmax.com
It claims to produce up to 35 more horsepower. There is no way this thing can work.

I think they claim a "0-35 HP increase" so they aren't lying when you don't gain anything. I think a cold-air intake would have the same effect, maybe better if you make a custom ram-air duct for it...

I read about it and it does look interesting. I have yet to see the actual prices. I may have just over looked them though. If the price is right them i might get them.

Yeah if its under $10....
I could make one of those spiral things with roof flashing and a pair of tin snips in 15 minutes.

That thing sux. One of the mags, SCC I think, dyno'd that thing and it actually lost horsepower.

They want $79.99+SH for a 4" or less, $89.99+SH for anything larger. I understand the idea of spiraling the air to increase flow around curves in the hose, but otherwise I see no gain. A Straight pipe or Weapon R intake is just as good really. I'd agree with Efeezie. The sprialing gain is gotta be less then the resistance it provides. I mean, it takes air going straight, and makes it spiral at like a 60 degree angle, that's going to slow it down like crazy, and the longer it's under the hood, the hotter it'll get, the slower it'll get, and I just dont see that as worth it for the outrageous amount they want. You'd get the same out of buying a $10 desk fan from Kmart and wedging the fan blade inside the hose! (Or Roof flashing and tin snips) Comon. Save the cash and buy something worth while. Like a few tanks of gas...

Figure to get that big of gains you have to have a huge engine/turbo and not have very good fuel mixture, because all it does is mix it so it has a even combustion in the cylinder. Witch most engines have a pretty good mix to begin with so the gains wouldn't be noticeable, it's a good concept, but only a good concept, other then there marketing. :)

scam alert

looking at those pictures, it has to be a scam. i don't see a motor or a belt drive of any kind to power it. if it uses vaccum from the engine to pull the air across it to keep it spooled. it looks like it has so little mass (ie look like aluminum foil) it is unable to keep spinning or able to create any positive pressure.

though on a side note in might make a cool ziping sound when you get on it, making you think it does something.

It's funny, I was actually thinking about trying to make something like that :) . I knew that it would be too easy to actually work. I guess somebody beat me to it :) .

Spiralmax was designed for a carburated engine, In a fuel injected engine by the time the air reaches the intake valves any spiral airflow has been straightened out before it is combined with fuel. So these people are full of sh*t.

Thank You and never buy one of these.

My other car is a Lexus LS400 and about 2 years ago I bought one of those things for that car because I wanted to make it faster and nobody made anything for it then. So I was desperate and bought one. I installed it right in front of the throttle body and they tell you to disconnect your negative battery terminal for 30 minutes to reset the ECU. I did....and took it for a test drive. NADA! Nothing. I was pissed of course so I called and they told me it takes a few days for your ECU to "Reprogram" itself to make use of the increased airflow. HAH! So 2 days later I had to make a trip to North Carolina (about a 3 1/2 HR. drive) No Extra HP but I did notice an increase in highway MPG. But I did also change my plugs and wires just before the trip so go figure. They had a 30 day money back garauntee so I tried to get one and after much back and forth and B-tchin and complaining, they gave me my money back (I threatened to sue). Anyways, thats my horror story so stay clear of it.

The moral is....If it sounds too good to be true IT IS!!!
