I went to go set my radio's clock today. Turned the key to the "ON" position (engine off, only radio/lights on) and heard a strange noise from under the hood....
Popped the hood and heard a whistling sound coming from the area around the battery and ECU. Almost sounded like it was coming from below there, tho. It was a high-pitched squeal, sounded like it could have come from a PC speaker.
There was also a metallic tapping sound that would happen about every 3/4 second, with the accuracy of a metronome.
So I listened to the sound for a while and decided I could not get a bearing on it, and I turned the key to the "LOCK" position (completely off). The sound stopped. Curious, I turned the key back to the "ON" position and... nothing. No whistle or ticking at all. Everyting appeared to be normal.
Car has no mods, is completely stock. Is a 1995 ESi, 130k mi. Had been sitting all night and the engine was cold. Car has been a little hesitant lately and jerks when coming to a stop occasionaly, but I think that is due to a sticky EGR valve.
I have never heard a sound like that coming from my car or any other car, and apparently nobody on the Talon Digest has either, because I could find no posts about anything like this.
Pretty weird,
-Jake (who is wondering why his car can't have nice normal problems)
