Well well, most of you have probably seen me about these NT forums, yakkin and yakkin about. As all the males here know, there arent enough female DSM junkies (Applause to LaFemmeDSM). So I've been saying a great friend of mine has been interested in Mustangs for a while - and I had my NT off the road rebuilding and whatnot. So it's back on the road, and we went for a nice long drive (Raced some hondas on the way) and she was commenting her Hyundai Accent couldnt handle going past 85 without the shakes, and here we were, cruisin at about 90mph in a 65 zone, and the car was at 2500 rpms, and not a shake in the world. I hit 120 that day, but the engine wasnt redlining, so I knew there was more to come. Again she had said, how she wanted to learn about cars, and she wanted a mustang convertible. I test drove a 97' NT spyder for the hell of it, and she drove it too, top down, and was thinking the economy and the power it had were fine, as she only wants a v6 mustang anyway - too much gas - and so just a few short days ago, it was her birthday, and I showed her a great time, and took her (as a joke) to drive a 2g Turbo spyder and a v8 mustang convertible. Then I let her drive my lil' 1gNT. Now she's my other, wanting to learn about cars, and starting the looking process for a DSM of her own...

I think we should celebrate for taking yet one more prospective 'stang owner, and turning them to the "dark side" oh high speed imports...

You were doing 90 at 2500 rpms??? Damn what do you got a 6 speed in that thing? :) At 90 in my car im up at like 3500 rpms in 5th.

Firstly I have a Ram Air setup with an Akimoto Filter so that all the air going in a 5" or 6" pipe pointing straight foreward must go through the filter and into the engine, so at high speeds, it gets plenty of air (I checked a stock intake pressure for the curve up to max speed, then with that and the pressure is a little higher at 65mph, and you can feel the difference. Then I have a 2.5" Exaust and Pacesetter ceramic headers, and I only run 93 Octane. Lastly, I have a twisted Automatic Tranny that is very insane and unforgiving. I have no clue why it was so low, but when I hit 120mph it still had a few thousand rpms till it hit 7k. You got me why...

I get 3500 RPM at a mere 80 mph.... is my car broke or somethin?

Like I said, I have an NT A/T and a high flow intake, and a good exaust system (well, decent flow, I wouldnt say good) running 93 octane, and i dont know what is with the A/T, but with the Overdrive, once it gets up to speed, it stays there at decent RPMs, but getting up to that speed was not too easy. Like acceleration, I have to keep the thing up as high as it'll go in 'power' mode, with the pedal to the floor to keep up with some cars. Acceleration it does not do, but once it gets up, it coasts well. I dont know if yours is broke, but it's a 2g. Another note on my tranny is that it is unforgiving, sometimes it will slip and miss a gear (Very annoying) and the RPMS will bounce off at 7250rpms, I gotta take my foot off the gas, let it get down to about idle speed, and then reapply slowly. I replaced the filter, fluid, and my cousin and I replaced some of the internals. I dont have, but am soon getting, a shifter kit for it, but the Overdrive on the AT's is pretty substantial, espicially considering with my intake I get a few psi of boost at speeds like that, if you dont have a cold air setup, get one, and even listen to the difference.

damn them automatics. i have a 1g 2.0 and very very similar mods. i'm at like 3000 rpm at only 70 or so. i'd kill for that gas mileage.

Not to knock your reasoning....but...
Making an engine breath easier doesnt change the engine rpm/groundspeed ratio.
It helps the engine get to a higher speed faster....yes....
but unless you change the gears that connect the crankshaft to the driveshafts, your rpm/mph ratio stays the same.

I'm sure the 4 speed auto makes the difference from the 5 speed. My girlfriend's acclaim with a 4 speed is at 2500 rpm at 85mph.

I have a 91 NT automatic and it'll run 3k rpm going 85. at 70 is about 2500.

why 93 octane?
use the cheap stuff and stash the money away in a piggy bank for better things :)

i have a 2gnt auto and i'm at about 3.2k @ 80, stock
