Its pretty simple just follow the clucth pedal all the way up toward the dash tweeters almost and there should be a plug in running from the pedal to this plug which then goes into a harness of wires. It you unplug the wire and it doesn't work you unplug the cruise control line and thats should plug back in and look for a wire that is futher away from the firewall, hope that helps.

How the !@#$!@#% do you get this stupid thing out? I pulled and pulled and pulled at it last night while pushing in the tab on the front of the plug, but I could not get it to move. What secret arts did you guys use to get this thing out?

And in english you mean......?:)

Just follow the clutch lever up and and look for the white connector. It is not the one on the lower pin switch, that is for the cruise control. Once you find the harness you need to pry, curse, and break your fingers until you pull the harness apart.

I just did this to my car about 2 weeks ago. At first I tried to pull it from the switch itself. After about 5 minutes of getting no where, I followed the wires back and saw that there was a white plug that I could just pull off. After I found that plug it took me about a second to unplug it and I was finished.

Thanks Tx97GSX! I was so intent on trying to get the upper plug out that I never noticed the lower connector. Now my hands are cut up from 45 min or so of trying to get the upper connector off, but at least my clutch switch is disabled :P

Glad I was able to help. Getting cut trying to get the main switch sucks ass. I was about to break the damn thing before I saw the lower connector. I'm going to try to get some pics up soon so that other people don't have to go through what we did and get cut.

I've got a digital camera and can take some shots if you don't want to, but my web server is hosed at the moment. I think it'd be cool to turn it into a mini-VFAQ, but I'm not sure what's involved in that.

Basically theres little to no lubrication on the bearings during startup and when you push the clutch in that puts added pressure on the bearings. So figure that if you dont need to push the clutch in during start up it helps avoid a possible contribution to crankwalk.

Plus it's nice when working on your car to be able to just reach in the window, turn the key, and have the car start :)

If you do this, you're only disconnecting the one switch, so the only change is that it's not necessary to hold down the clutch to start the car. Nothing else will be affected :)

does the first gen have oiled bearings during start up?

I don't believe the bearings are oiled on startup on any DSM because there's no fuel pressure when the car starts. I may be wrong though.

I think you mean oil pressure.

Just be carefull you dont park your car in gear like I do... it's NOT a good sound when the car pops your head like an overgrown watermelon as it rolls on its way through your garage door..
(not from personal experience of course just... a colorfull imagination :) )

Alright I looked in that picture given and I am having a hard time getting the stupid plug out. There are 3 tabs on it and I am pushing all 3 in and pulling but it will not budge at all. Any helpful ideas, I think I have the right plug that you guys are talking about...the so called "easy" one. Thanks for your help.

You are so very right, there have been so many times I have been in the passenger side of the car and wanted to start it and this has helped me so much. I have a turbo timer so my car is always in neutral when its parked so its never ever been a problem for me. O yea another good thing about this is if you want a remote starter for your car. Here in the cold of Blacksburg VA, I always let my car warm up in the morning before I drive it, and if I could just press a button and have her start right up while Im al warm inside the house it'd be great.

To tell ya the truth I just said to hell with the switch and I just cut the wires. Sure its more ghetto, and I will probably never be able to put it back to stock without alot of effort, but you know what? I dont want to go back to stock, I seriously like it this way, and with crankwalk as such a big deal I'd be an absolute idiot to go back to stock and have to push on that clutch pedal when no oil pressure was built up.
