All I can say is make sure you include some type of safety switch. A while back I saw someone talking about a safety switch. It was a magnet switch ( the type used for home security) that was connected to the shifter cables. That way there is no possible way that it will start in gear. You also will have to bypass the clutch switch on the pedal.

all i have to say is: make sure to put a bypass/disable switch so if you have you car worked on at a shop (such as tire change) there will be no mishaps....just speaking from experience.
i have had remote start on my manual trans. vehicles for 10 yrs now.

my friend remote started his car INSIDE our shop by accident. put a hole in the wall. OOPS!
my installer puts in a small toggle switch that allows the remote start feature to be disabled incase you leave it at a shop, or let your friends or girlfriend drive, and they forget to leave it in nuetral, and try to start it. you may want to consider this, and hide the switch away good.

how cold does it get down there in VA? i only use my remote start during the dead of winter up here in WI, when it get's below 0. i have had no problem with mine and it's a 5 speed. if you really want remote start, see if you can get one with a TT. it might end up to be more of a hassle than it's worth.

You just need a magnetic reed switch wired into or in place of the clutch pedal switch.

I have a Clifford Solaris that was designed specifically for manual transmissions...pricey, but gets the job done. Only way it could get started in gear is if put in gear while the alarm is armed without setting off the alarm.
The only annoying thing is that if the alarm goes off, or if the alarm is disarmed without remote starting the car, the remote start is deactivated...but I guess that's what makes it safe in the first place.

SImple solution to the safety switch problem. Safety switch connected to the E-brake handle at FULL UP position and one on each side of the shifter FRONT and BACK! The shifter has to push and pull the cable to actually be in gear so front of and behind is where they need to be and close to the shifter when in neutral. That's how mine will be and I know it will work. By pass the clutch switch permanantly! who needs it any way.
KEep it simple!
Use these THey are cheap and WILL work for it all.

All you need is 3 plus a togle for a disable switch

I have had the Clifford IntelliStart 4 on my car for about a year now and I highly reccomend it to anyone who wishes to have a remote start on their manual. It has a safeguard system that prevents you from having any costly accidents. Remote start is the best way to scare people away when they are staring at your car. Good times.
