Hey, guys!
I admit - I'm a complete sucker for hood pins. I don't really need them - but that's "the rice" blood in my veins :) I just want them!!!! Please, help! Where can I get them and how do you mount them to the body? How do you drill the hood? How do you put the hood protectors on? ETC, ETc, etc!!! PLEASE! :)

Ok here it goes...when you lift up your hood theres gonna be 2 ruber bushings under it. With the hood closed they are located right next to the pop up head lights ( they land directly over your turn signals) First you got to take out the left and right turn signal lights. Then your gonna remove the 2 ruber bushings by twisting them off and with the *hood open*,your gonna drill a hole where the bushings used to be. (the factory holes make them perfectly even)

All you gotta do now is close the hood and drill enother 2 holes directly over the spot where the 2 bushings used to land on(*with the hood competely closed and make sure the drill is 100% even with the hood*).Now open the hood back up and screw the hood pin set where the holes you just made are(top of turn signals).Once you finish, try and put the turn signal lights back on so you can see if they interfere with the hood pin rods.(if they do, you have to cut them a little)Close the hood again and adjust them .Leave just enough room for the hood pins to get pulled out easy.Once you do this, everything else is simple. Depending on what type of hood pins you get this is the best spot i have found to do this on my car. I used Moroso hood pins and they cost me about 19$....

Oh yeah...take the 2 bushings and drill holes in them ,put them back over the hood pin rod so your hood has no play just like before.
I hope i dint confuse you to much:D....its realy more simple than it sounds. Hope this helped..peace

Anybody have any how to's on a 97 gsx? Why are the wires on moboosts sticking out and the other 2 dont have wires?

They just don't have the cords. The length doesn't bother me - it is short enough not to hit the ground and long enough to get it out of the way.

Anyone have any input on where to put these on a 97 GSX? I really want to put some on this weekend. Also, can you buy them at a local auto supply store? When you take them off, can't you take off your hood latch, and some other stuff?

MoBoost where did you get that wire mesh on your car that fills the front bumber area? This would be perfect for me to hide my FMIC to get the stck look. Guys any infor id good. Can I buy this or home make it.

i got a question about hood pins, can anyone just come along and open your hood while the car is parked? if so don't you worry about stuff getting stolen?

ok, well than what's the point of the hood pins then?

Some FMICs require taking the latch off.
They make sure the hood doesn't pop off (bigger issue for light weight hoods)
In my case it was a form of RICE! yup ... I just love 'em (read one of the replies above ... the one with my pic in it :) LOL)

I have a related q. do c-fiber hood require using pins?

MoBoost

I would think that a cf hood needs the hood pins - cf is fragile and on high speed your latch might break off, and there goes your hood (hopefully not breaking your front shield).

Hood pins are great if you reach REALLY high speeds even if the hood isn't carbon fiber. I saw the hood fly off a 99 Mustang Cobra once. Funny shit. If you are racing and really worried about the hood, just cover the seem between the hood and front end with duct tape. Then the air can't slip under the hood. Cheap and requires no drilling.

I noticed you all are using only one type of hood lock.

I have a different type on my 99 GST, they are the actual flat-key type. They are chrome and I utilized the two rubber hood stoppers/plugs, etc.. under the hood as the spot to drill my holes in the top of the hood. However, I removed the rubber stoppers and inserted my lock connectors in the remaining holes.

Then, I simply took the rest of the assembly and slid it down through each of the holes in the hood to line up with the lock rods. Then you just basically tighten them down and make sure that they are flush with your hood so that they dont look like stick-ons... (yUCK!). Then close the hood and the locks slip into the rods underneath and you take your key (that comes with them) and lock them.

All in all, it is a nice clean smooth look and they are lockable. Basically, when I release my hood latch, I have to use the key to unlock the hood locks, in order to lift the hood. I picked them up at Checkers for about $25.

I need to get pics posted on here of my ride for all of you. As soon as I figure it out. I will do that.

Take it easy all.

Hey guys I'm going to hopefully be buying a 1g CF hood from darksidemotoring. I just wanted to know how easy it is to take off your old hood and put the new one on. This thread appears to answer my biggest Q for how to do the hood pins. Any more info or pics appreciated cause I'll be doing this in my Apt parking lot. Thanks, Chris

These type of hood pins are supposedly not all that safe at high speeds. More of a show than go thing. Not speaking from personal experience only from hood pin info I read awhile back.
