as some of you may know, i just got a 92 talon tsi awd over the weekend... i'm ready to attack this car with some sound... i would like to know what are the EXACT SIZES.... i know for sure i can fit some 6X9's in the back. but what about the fronts? i've been reading through multiple threads and people say 5 1/4 ror 6 1/2.... which one is is for the 92's? and what about the speakers in the dash? is it 3's or 3 1/2's? someone please clarify the sizes for me. thanks in advance... :)

btw, what speakers do you guys recommend for some decent sound? i'm not up for pounding but great clarity and some bass... i was thinking JL or INFINITY KAPPAS for my interior setup...

You can fit 4 1/4 in the dash, 6 1/2 in the doors, 8s or 6x9s in the rear, and four 12's in the trunk :)

Never got around to the 8's in the rear though :(

I'd run infinity references the new ones are cheap and nice soundding. a 6.5 set with the tweeter in the dash, and the speaker in the door. I would also get a new deck and a amp, but that is a given. Maybe try 8's in theback, I have a set of focals back there, I think the are actualy 7's though, I had to make a custom mounting bracket but it wasn't anything, it's very simpile you can figure it out, I did :)

I've got an entire system waiting to be installed in my 90 Laser. I'm sure the speaker sizes stayed the same throughout the 1G line.

For the rears, 6x9's are the way to go. Don't need to go all out in these, since they are only for rear fill.

The door speakers came with 5.25" stock. I made a custom baffle and fit a Boston Pro 6.4 woofer in there. Not easy, just need to cut the baffle to fit around the bulges in the door. Mine is 1/2", to allow the large magnet of the Boston woofer to clear the window. Also need to get rid of the plastic grill inside the door panel.

The speaker openings in the dash hold a European spec 4" speaker. American spec 4" speakers have 4 corners to mount, while European models only use 2. I traced the outline of the stock 4" speaker onto a 1/2" baffle, then cut it out, and cut out a hole for my Boston tweeter to mount in there.

The best setup that I've been told is to use kickpanels. If I don't like the final staging or sound from my door/dash setup, I'm thinking of buying another component set and installing it in some kickpanels along with the Pro 6.4 system.

now i'm hearing different measurements again.... i know for a fact to got with 6X9's in the rear.... i don't want to do too much work so i guess i'll go with 5.25's on the doors... in the front is is 4's or 4.25's? i don't want to buy the wrong speakers...

there is no such thing as a 4.5" speaker. it's a 4". You can fit a 3.5" in the front with no problems. it's just a little harder to find a decent 4" speaker, that's all. 3.5" or 4" will do up front in the dash. just listen to a couple and see which one sounds the best to you for the money.
