Hi-

I replaced my stock 2 din stereo with a single din stereo with an ugly conversion kit. My stereo is sitting on top with room for another deck under it but there I have the nasty piece of plastic that came with the kit. When i purchased the kit, the guy told me he had a pocket to put there but I have been unable to find the part. I have gone to the dealer and they say there is no such part.

Does anyone know of a pocket that will fit in a single din space for a 90 talon?

It would be great if you could help me out. Thanks.

I'm just about in the same boat... Putting in a new stereo this weekend. I got this part number for the single DIN pocket from the talon digest archives:

MB877180

I'm gonna see if I can find this today... Is there anyplace online that would stock this, and ship today/tomorrow?

I just ordered the pocket from the mitsu dealer here. It was about $23. I've been told that Best Buy carries these things. If you have one near you check their installation department.

Yes, they typically carry univseral pockets but they are ugly compared to the stock pocket. My friend got one in his civic and it was damn ugly. I will place my bets on the stock pocket.

I'm looking for that too..?? The GST doesn't have a pocket because of the big stock stereo so is this MB877180 from a non-turbo model?

Do I need anything else other than this to install my deck?

Please help..

I wouldn't mind finding the stock pocket either since I install my CDC-MP3 and left the stock cassette on the bottom to cover the hole. I was thinking of going MoBoost's route and using the space for gauges.

I didn't need any kit since I just screwed my radio into the original side brackets on my 92. I know what you mean about the ugly plastic piece most kits have. That's why i didn't use one.

Ooooooooooooooo.... you got the cdc-mp3?!?! How is it??? I was drooling over it when I bought my stereo. Instead of that one I went with the kdc-715x... its good, but ooooo that mp3 feature is nice.

Oops, um johnathan... where did you get the part#... I just realized you have a 95 2g and I have a 1g so the part is going to be different. Do you think you could look up the 1g pocket for me??? Thanks.

I got it from the talon digest. Searched on "radio pocket"... first hit returned this:

Part number MB877180 will fit in either 1G or 2G with stock brackets. (and
probably without, but you are on your own there...)

That's what I ordered from the dealer. (coming tomorrow)

I'm likin' the Aiwa CDC-MP3. I got 12 cd's onto one cd-rom. I always wanted a cd-changer, but didn't want the hassle of swapping cds in and out all the time. It's pretty sweet. And I FINALLY have reliable FM reception. The FM on the Infinity stocker has been getting progressively worse and would only tune in stations practically when in the shadow of the transmitter... i.e. Sears Tower.

Help me out guys.. my car previously used one of those cheap plastic install kit and I believe I need a stock metal bracket to mount my deck and add this stock pocket right?

I heard the AIWA skips when playing regular CDs.. is that true?

i was going to get a pocket for my 1g but decided against it. instead im gonna get some plexi glass, paint it black, cut a hole in it and mount my turbo timer inside it. that way it'll match the trim (black) and my turbo timer will be readily available :)

I have a dash kit I got from Best Buy. It has that stupid EQ slot but I made very good use of it. I put switches into it and also found the Profec B mounts perfectly under there. I had to fab some things behind it to keep it in place, but you can't see that from the outside.

looks good, but what do the switches do?

That my friend is a secret. I promised myself I'd quit putting bad ideas into the minds on the list!

ok ok you twisted my arm

They are for my hydrolics! J/k

Ok for real! (center to right)

switch one : I will not tell here - but it is listed on my site. If you have trouble finding it e-mail me. I'll be happy to tell you then :)

switch two : Keeps Antenna down when listening to CD's

switch three: Radar detector hard wired, turn it off if I get pulled over, that way the cop doesn't see me reach for it. If I'm in a state like Michigan where it is illegal to have one.

I kind of did a half #$% job while installing my stereo. The original stock deck had the hangers on the side but with the single din conversion I didnt really know what to do. I managed something but does anyone have a good way for doing this... what i mean is i had the stock double din and now i have a single din in the. What did you do to mount your 1 din stereo? thanks.

Go to Best Buy or Circuit City or any other audio installation shop. Purchase a Dash kit for a single din radio for your specific year of car.

It comes with everything you need to mount the radio in its place. You will not have to use any original brackets off the factory radio. Only some screws.

It is maybe a 15 minute job.

Thats the same mounting bracket that I have.. It is cool to stick things for the little EQ area, but it just won't fit an AFC the because the decks seats too low..

There is another kit out there that pushes the deck further up towards the top. This also gives you a feature where you get a POCKET. You might be able to put the afc under there. I have seen mainly people just mount a greddy TT and a profec B stacked on top of each other and put it off to one side. Still having room to put other stuff.

Thanks for the info! I just ordered the stock brackets (Left and right = 2 parts) and the stock pocket!

Maybe the AFC will have to do without pocket but I'll see when I get it!

circuit city has a few options for ya
1g
model# spg-mi4
this will not have a pocket but cover's the bottom hole if you were lucky and have the full double din hole this will still work but you will have to file down the top of your factory trim panel
if you have the split 2 din's then just slide your cage in from the front and pick up this #met99009000
this is a pocket to fill the hole under the radio
for the 2g cars
#met99009000 will work in your car also just mount your radio to the factory brackets and screw in the pocket works great good luck
