View Full Version : Help mounting single deck on 2G

Well I have a single deck to replace the factory infinity double DIN now, everywhere I go they sell this same install kit that has the deck kind of low towards the middle, and a removable plate for a EQ later.

This is not what I want. I want the deck as high as possible and install a storage area to put jewel case or AFC or something. How can I do this? Do I have to rip something out of the factory stereo brackets?

Something like this:

I had my stereo installed at the place I bought it from, and it looks exactly like the pic you posted, with the little storage space under it. American TV...it seems to be a local place though (WI, IL, IA, MI).
I'm sure you'd be able to find 'em online somewhere?

Thats the only way I've seen radio kits.Although I've seen some that have a way smaller slit on the bottom(1/4 din size) on them.Which is perfect for turbo timer, boost controller,ect....

The stereo deck on my car has the removable panel for the equilizer. Something i found it useful for though, is to pull the panel out, and install a few toggle switches for lights, amp, guages, etc. Then just pop it back on, looks nice too. :)

You will not need to tak eout the factory brackets. Call your Mitsubishi dealer and order the cubby hole, (I misplaced the part number). I costs roughly $20. I have installed my deck the way you are looking to do yours. To install it this way, DO NOT buy an aftermarket radio kit. your will simply bolt the radio into the factory brackets (the upper portion), next you just bolt in the cubby hold. Now just put everything back together. Walla you are done. The only thing you may need to do is fabricate a trim piece to go around your new deck because often times when you install a deck in this fashion, the factory trim plate will not fit.

You can use the factory brackets! Instead of modifying the trim plate, Redrill the holes on the factory brackets to sit the radio flush, and just bolt it in using the screws your radio came with! This looks much better too!

but what about the 1/8 inch gap on the sides of the radio. How do you eliminate that without creating or modifying the trimplate?

The trim plate will fit on the radio after the holes are redrilled, so there won't be a gap.

I think I am missing something. I have both the deck and the cubbly hole installed. there is a 1/8 gap along the sides. I cannot get the radio trim plate on because:

1) it hits the cubby hole. I can trim it a little to make it fit.

2) The Trim Plate hits the CAR's trimpiece.

It seems my only options would be either trimming the radio trimplate or the CAR's trimplate. The gap is only around the radio, not around the cubbyhole. I don't see how redrilling holes in the brackets would help me. I don't have any noticeable gap above and below the radio, only on the sides.

If you slide your radio back further, to where the screen of the radio fits flush with the front of the cubby whole and mount it like that, you will not have any gap anywhere. You will still use the trim plate, but the front of the trim plate will fit right behind the edge. If I had a digital camera I would take a pic for you. I'm a car audio installer at the good guys!. I install them all the time like this. If you were to take a book or a clipboard or something flat, and put the front flat edge of the cubby hole next to it, and then sit the radio on top of it, pushing it all the way foward, it would be flush,(or flat) up against the book or the clipboard. Then bolt it in. The front holes usually line up. The back holes do not line up. Sometimes, depending on the radio, you have to turn the cubby hole upside-down. What type of radio is it?

I see what you are saying. I will take a photo of it this weekend and put it up, you may be able to point me in the right direction. I have a sony cdxm-750. I have a 97 eclipse. I put the deck and the cubby hole flush in to the deck. I only bolted in the front bolts on the deck. The back bolts did not line up. (I did not drill new holes since I figured that I would have to build a trimplate anyways).

your seterio will never fit right unless you have someon custom make you a fiber glass panel to make your stereo look like it fits right.

Tredawg.... You da man. I have been installing systems for quite some time now, and I never thought of sliding the radio back. Don't get me wrong, It is always a pain in the butt whenever you have to do any extra drilling, but it was WAY easier than building a custom trimplate. If you live near Jacksonville Florida, I'll have to buy you a coke or something.
