Does anyone have any performance data concerning changing stock (heavy) wheels to lighter aftermarket ones? Are we talking 1/100 second in the 1/4 or 1/10th's? I have the stock 92 Talon wheels. Does anyone know how much they weigh?

From what I understand about wheels and tires, and the effects of rotation, if you purchase wheels that are significantly lighter (say some of the 8 or 9 lb variety) I would say you would be looking at 10th of second. Maybe even a couple. The way it was explained to me, is that a wheel that is say, half as heavy, weighs even less under rotation, because you have less rotational mass..

Comments anyone.....

true dat, i got some ssr, damn, you do
feel the quicker accel, and turns better.
but you do feel the bumps more, sounds
alot louder also. the heavier wheels just
go over anything, like a tank.

Lighter wheels deffinently better, exact #'s I do not know. But Less rotational mass lets the engine turn those tires faster

for every 1lb less its an estimated 2 hp increace that
you feel. the car wil accelerate MUCH better thats why rally cars use 15" rims that wheigh 13 lbs. much better responce too!! so if your rims wheigh 2 lbs less its 16 hp that you feel.
