While i was driving around last night my stock temp needle fell down and it wont move any more.. sometimes when im coming from a stop it will go up as i accelerate but thats about it.. i'm sorta confused on how/why this could happen...
I just replaced the themorstat like a month ago, the car seems to be running fine in any case, i believe its just the needle that is fubar'd so..
any ideas? i don't really want to pay to get it fixxed, i'd rather buy a tranny temp guage to fill the whole in my 3rd gauge pod..
would that be an okay substiute?

I'm not sure how the gauge is wired up (it could get it's signal from the computer, or from a sensor), but could be that the temp sensor is shot. It could also be a short if the needle moves a lot, when it does. (it would probably move all the way up, and do it fast) But I think it's the sensor that the gauge reads off of.

Look around the thermostat housing and make sure that there isn't a loose plug from any of the 3 sensors that are there.

I'd buy an aftermarket gauge, It's more accurate and probley cheaper.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't all the pointers just pull off. I remember reading of others who, when replacing the gauge faces, pulled off the pointers. Maybe this pointer came loose and is about to fall off.

you are correct about the pointers falling off, but i doubt that is the dilly here.

Check to make sure everything is connected like was previously suggested. I am pretty sure the sensor isn't dead on you.
If you cant figure it out pay somebody having no temp is very bad.
Could end up costing you thousands.

The exact same thing happened to my oil pressure gauge. Then I got under my car and saw that the plugg had fallen out. It was just hanging by the wire. You either have to try and plug it back in..........or go ahead and buy a new plug. The plugs on our cars can become damaged easily and then they just start to fall out.
