Specifically the NT-450. They have a great buy at Discount Tire Direct for my size ($129.00) and the next most expensive tire is 176.00 ...ouch. So I guess I'm leaning towards them right now.

Nittos suck? Care to give any reasons?
I've got 225/45/ZR17 NT450s on my 17x7 wheels, and I have no complaints. Considering my car is a April-October daily driver which makes a few drag passes as well as auto-x events most weekends, I like the tires. I can't personally compare them to the Yokohama AVS Intermediate (the only other choice from Tire Rack at 225/45/17), but the price difference was to much for my budget.

I've had Nitto's 215/45/17's.I can't remember the type.I also had a set Toyo Proxes f24's.Both tires didn't last long.Due to the highway driving that I do.Overall I liked them..

I need 225/50R17. There aren't many high performance tires
available in that size. I really like the Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 but they are *almost* out of the budget range.

Hey DiamondsR4EVR,
I've had quite a few different tires on my ride, and Nittos have been the best thus far. When I first got my 17x8 VX1s they came with the Nitto 450s - nice tire with good treadwear [around 300]. My only complaint was that they didn't hold the corners as well as I would have liked. I then made a budget minded choice and bought Discount's Rage Road Huggers - DON'T. I had mine less than 6 months before they started shredding.
From there, I came to my final selection. The Nitto Extreme 555. I've had these on my car for well over a year with no problems. They have a good treadwear, again, 300 or above and appear to grip better than the 450s. The best opinion I could give you is that when it comes time to replace tires - it'll probably Nittos again.
If Nittos are in your budget, I don't think you'll regret the decision.

Thanks for the info Peter. I guess I'll go with the Nitto's since most of my racing is done in straight lines. I notice you have a TRE 16g just like me. Not a bad port job eh? I've got a ported manifold coming in from Jon on Monday too, so well see what type of difference it makes. I should've gone with the Elimanator downpipe though.

I've got 225/40/18 Nitto 555's on mine. Not the 555R drag radials...but the high performance tires. I LOVE them. They do anything I ask of them...make hardly any noise...GREAT in the rain...you'll die in the snow with them, though :)
When these wear out, I will definitely get another set. Oh yeah, I have to pull that nail out...dernit.

i have two sets of wheels: winter and summer the winter set is nitto 450s, summer bfg comp t/a zr. the nitto works better in foul weather but in the dry, there is no comparison, the comp t/a kills the nitto. the 450 is an all season tire, with all of the extra sipes and grooves required for that duty you are going to loose dry traction.
where do you live? do you need a 4 season tire. the 450 is a good tire but if it doesn't snow where you live i would look at something else.
