does anyone know if installing strut bars can get rid of tire hop, and if so does anyone have any recommendations on which ones to get???

i'm going to guess you have a front wheel drive car if you're experiencing wheel hop under hard acceleration or launches from a dead stop. a front strut tower bar may help marginally, taking some of the motion out of the strut towers and allowing a more consistant contact patch. but a poly bushing kit should be more effective. this will keep the suspension mounts more rigid instead of shifting against the relatively soft factory bushings when you begin to overcome the traction of the tires and the capabilities of the factory suspension's original intent. basically the bushings will minimize flex and the deflection of the intended suspension geometry and keep everything going the right direction. energy suspension and many others should make kits but the install is no fun from what i've heard. keep looking i'm sure someone will have a more indepth knowledge of the situation than i do. good luck

We just put a strut tower bar on a buddys 98 GST and it helped alot with the hoping, but even more so it helped keep the car straighter on take offs, his car jumped all over the road, until we added the bar, his bar only cost 60 bucks, low cost mod but great improvement. I wouldnt spend alot on one, unless u are going after a show look.

I jsut recently installed a Buschur Racing front strut brace, it stiffend up the suspension moderatley but was a pain in the rear to install, had problems with battery tie down (rubbing against the strut)and hood clearence, had to play with it a little to get it to fit, but it only cost 90$, as for wheel hop I have noticed the tires sticking to the ground a little better.

modacar.com has (had, could be sold out) Suspension Techniques strut bar for the 91-99 DSMs for $39 (10 sets for each gen.). I bought one last week from them, Suspension Techniques discontinued production on them.

streetbeatcustoms.com has them for $35. I ordered the fronts on the 19th and they still haven't arrived yet so I can't comment on their quality. Their shipping sucks though. fairly poor customer service too.

Some places just ship so slow, modacar told me 5-10 business days. That is a long time 10 business days is two weeks, but at least they told me. I ordered some tools from harborfreight.com a little while back, it was 2.5 weeks for one part, and over a month for the other. At least if they rip you off on S&H they should get your order out to UPS that day (I payed $11 for the 3lbs. & slow shipping from harborfreight). The day after I ordered my strut bar I ordered some Amsoil from a dsmsource memeber and I recieved that oil yesterday.

Right now I have an Eibach front strut bar on my 92 Eclipse but I wanted to get a rear strut bar. Any one know where I can find one of these for the ride? I have heard that GAB makes one but I know there has to be other mfgs as well. It seems like rear struts are easy to find for anything older than 95+ and hard to find for 90-94s..SUX.

I installed my new bar a few days ago, but am yet to test it from this bad weather (snow). I haven't seen a rear strut bar, but will keep an eye out for ya. I'm curious how that can be installed without sticking out like a sore thumb. No matter what you'll have to pull the panels off and eithier cut a hole or leave the panels off. Do you think it would actually be worth it for the rear? Maybe you should post something up on the general portion, you should get either some good advice or find the part you want there. Who knows, there may be a good reason why you can't find one for our 1Gs.
