i was looking for a new cd player for my car last night. i got it down to two chooses. the sony cdx-m600($350) or there was a alpine($400).now the alpine sound alot better but the sony looks better.does any body have these? they guys that works there said to go with alpine.b/c you can remove the fave and if some stole it,they would need a code but if they stole the sony they could put it right it.if i got the sony and put an kenwood eq,wou;dn't that help they sound alot?i don't know what to do?

ps. he also said that these cd players only have 4 speakers out so the tweaters on the dash won't work.and he said that the factory amp won't work, so i would new amp. just to put some new tunes in my car is costing me to much. what can i do????

i'd go with the alpine just because alpine is better quality i think.sony is good but after a while there lasers start to go bad on certain models, but this is like years down the road,if your like me,i get a new cd player every other year, well i used to,but in this case,go with the alpine

Go with the Alpine. It's really nice not worring about it when you leave your car parked with the windows down and/or unlocked... Just remove the face, lock it in the glove box, and walk away.

I've also heard some negative things about Sony's. A friend of mine had one and buttons started breaking right away. Maybe it was just him...

Yah, and dont buy an EQ...Most automotive EQ will add more crap into your sound than if you didnt have one at all - more distortion. Less stuff you have in line the better sound your gonna have.

If you really must get an EQ, get the trunk mount kind, these are larger/more expensive but will do alot better job than a crappy indash one.

Dont go for looks, go for performace.

Another big mistake alot of people make, is spend all their money on a super duper deck. Then chimp out on speakers/amp.

I would buy a decent deck, then spend more money on amps+speakers. Think there is less difference in sound quality in decks than there is with amps/speakers.

Go with what you like. I can tell you that I have had many decks. All of them either sony or alpine. Both are good decks. I just bought and installed the sony CDX-M750. This is the top of the line version of the CDX-M600.

Pros:
Price -- If there is a Sound Advice in your area, check with them. I bought this deck 2 weeks ago for $300 even + tax. (this is less than what you would pay for the CDX M600)

Active Panel Display. Sure that detach face is nice IF you remove it. My experience with detach faces... I did it religiously for the first month, then it became a pain the ass. With the Sony, you don't even see it at night.

All Inclusive. The CDXM750 is a great low price deck to build your system around. It has a built in DSP processor for staging, a digital EQ (no analog noise), crossovers (both front/rear highpass and low pass AND a sub out) and a remote.

Cons:
The deck takes some getting used to. On the 2g the face doesn't fold down quite far enough. (or maybe I have the seat lying back too far -- pimp style)

i have owned several sony decks but only one alpine.
my vote is for alpine.
i have had a number of quality problems with sony products.
the biggest issue with my stuff was with cold solder joints.
two cassette decks and two cd players had to go in for service to fix this.these decks were top of the line at the time, not their lower end stuff. i also had this problem with a sony camcorder that i paid $1000 for.
the alpine was flawless.........
the alpine also had a knob for the volume control.
a superior d/a/c
a preamp with a 4 volt output!!!
too bad the damn thing was ripped off.
