Ok, I have a 94 1.8 n/t fwd laser. Stock to the bone. Will soon have a K&N air filter, but other than that its pretty stock right now. So I'm calling out all you 1.8's to tell me about mods you made to your 1.8, or any cool stories about 1.8's . My best friend has a 91 laser fwd turbo RS and he always makes fun of me cus i got a little engine. but then again i have a smoother running trans/clutch than he does too. His car is QUICK though. Its all stock too. As stock I bet it could beat a stock mustang 6-CYL too. Thats what he wants to race soon. My step mom has a 00 mustang conv. 6-cyl :)

You'll never even get that 1.8L up to the level of a 2.0L Turbo, maybe not even a non-turbo. It can't be done without nitrous or a turbo kit.

People can say "Port/polish head, port intake/exhaust manifold, add exhaust, filter, intake, pulleys, etc..." but it's gonna take a LOT of work to get that 1.8 up to a 2.0, I have them both and there is a world of difference.

The only worthwhile things to do are intake and exhaust. It might be a little harsh, but I don't think YOU could EVER compete with a 91 Laser RS-T.

Here some advise for you(I have the 1.8L and the 2.0L T).

Unless the 1.8L has a lot of miles and is in bad condition that you can not get more then $1000 for it SELL IT. Dont put any money into it. Its a waste. Its a very reliable car and gets great mpg but if youre looking for performance its useless. I started with a 1.8L and I put so much money into it its not funny. Its also smashein the front, the paint is faded and its got 153k. It drives fine and I use it as a daily driver for now since I am rebuliding the 2.0L because it's worth more to be keeping it then selling it.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

If you still want to mess with the 1.8L buy NOS. Its the only way but it still wount be faster then the 2.0L NT. If you are intrested I have an almost brand new head for the 1.8L.

I personally have a 91 eclipse 1.8 5 speed but have driven both a 1G and a 2G 2.0 NT, also both 5 speeds. I do have to say, neither was very impressive to me in terms of their "higher performance." I actually raced my friends 95 rs (the one I drove)from a stop and from a roll, walked him both times. Now, my car is actaully in very good shape.(91 GS, 60K miles, K&N, removed aircan and silencer, along with rebuild trans and new clutch) That could have made a difference but I doubt much. Just my 2 beans....

This is the ...(no words)... thing I have ever seen. I never knew there was such a thing. No way. Its really nice. I still can not believe it. They dont say how much hp you gain with each upgrade. Once again thats unbelievable.

Ok, well I understand what you guys are saying, but I never said that I wanted to get up to a 2.0. I just want my ride to have a little bit more go. I wouldn't even think my 1.8 could take my friend's stock 2.0 Turbo if my car was souped up. All I have for it now is a K&N air filter. Its sitting in storage right now untill the snow melts then I'm going to try to buy a header for it see how that goes. Then I'll probibly get a performance muffler, or a new exhaust system.

Unfortunately, I dont think that there is anyone that makes a prefabricated header for the 1.8. You may have to head toward the custom side of things. The K&N will work great if you cut up or remove the aircan alltogether. While your at it, remove the silencer at the top of the mas too. All of this together will add alittle more punch and make it sound bitchin too.(no turbo whistle but hey, still sounds good)

blk94lzr I understand you did not say you want to get to 2.0 teritory I just suggested that if your car is in good condition you might want to consider selling it and buying a 2.0 Turbo. I mean who doest want a better car for the same price.

Guess what? I even installed an Apexi S-AFC in it.

As far as headers go I also don't think there is a header made for the car. You will have to custom make it. A K&N will help quite a lot. As far as exhaust, to save money I would go with a stock GSX exhaust. Later Dan.

here goes.. i took a 91 laser 1.8 and did a partial harness swap from a 2.0l twincam NT (i say partial cause you dont need all of it just some) and dropped it in the hole ... added a bumped hood, i lost an extra 200kms on the fuel milage but made up for it in passing ability..if your ever looking for 1.8 parts i have complete motor, harness, NEW waterpump (unmounted) and ecu as well as manifold and all sensors. as for mods to the engine.. none look in the NT section to see my current project for 2.0 NT's pic links included can u say i own the ONLY supercharged talon in the world..
I can..

you whomped a 2.0 in your 1.8? you've driven both and dont see any difference??? ummm I have owned both driven both 1/4 miled both. I KNOW THERES A DIFFERENCE.. CHRIS...WAKE THE HELL UP? how old are you 16? power to weight ratio is different for both cars and seeing as its still the same chassis; MATH which is the only PRECISE SCIENCE dictates that the 2.0l first gen and second gen IS THE FASTER CAR by a longshot.. add a turbo into the mix and watch out..

I OWN THE WORLDS FIRST AND ONLY [SO FAR] SUPERCHARGED TALON.

LOL, Chris looks left, then right double checkin just to make sure he "IS" awake!! Why do people always assume that such things are just too impossible to believe. You make your point when comparing power/weight ratio, the 2.0 should be and is faster in most instances. I am just giving a personal account thats all. I am by no means sayin my car could take a 2.0l in the 1/8 let alone the 1/4 but I do think that mine at least can hold its own (even winning some races as I said)through the top of 2nd gear.(I have no idea if the gearing is actually diff.?) After that I am sure the 2.0 would dog me. By the way, no I am not 16.......are you???? I'm 22 and lovin it!!!
