Well, here's another nightmare story about synthetic oil. I put in mobil 1 0W30 and it opened up leaks everywhere. And I mean everywhere. I had oil leaking at the head gasket, cam seal, front crank seal, rear crank seal and valve stem seals. Switching back from synthetic to dino oil has made things a little better, but it's eaten away enough of my valve stem seals to leave smoke trails all over the freeway on deceleration. Unfortunately, I'm incredibly lazy. Has anyone changed valve stem seals with the head still in the car? Has anyone changed valve stem seals at all? I just bought a new head the last time.

I've done it too, and it's really not that big of a deal. The Haynes manual layed it out pretty nicely. Got lifter tick? perfect time to update those as well while you've got everything apart. The biggest problem I had was getting my spring compresser on those short springs-- LOTS of cussing and swearing there.

Turns out the head is cracked. So new head. Already replaced the lifters. :) Thanks anyway, guys.
