UR crank pulley buyers, beware!!

I started a thread in December about my car sqealing like a stuck pig in cold weather. It was doing that since that cold December night, and it was just getting to be too much. I tried tightening the power steering belt, as suggested, but that didn't help. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, and I put a little belt dressing on both my belts. That was a temporary fix. Well, about a half hour-lasting fix. Today after school, I started my car up, and there were people all around. It started up and sounded fine...then I started to pull out, and "EEEEEEE-EEEEEE-EEE-EE-EEEE-EEEE-EEEE!!!!" My car officially hated me. I freaked out, and waited for everyone else to leave the parking lot till I left. I was too embarrassed to drive around people. The whole way home, I wanted to kick my car's ass. So I had enough, went to my mechanic's garage to get it up on the lift and change the belts or do something. The belt that's required for the UR crank pulley is smaller than stock...i believe the belt number/size is 5040533...something like that. Anyway, I got the belt off after looking at shit under my hood for about 10 minutes trying to figure out which belt it was. The belt was worn all the way down to the outer coating, on the verge of snapping! I checked out the pulley, and noticed for the first time just how sharp the fucking thing is! The grooves on the belt had been totally cut away by the pulley's sharp groove things (I don't know pullies)...My mechanic told me since it's made of aluminum, it'll take a while, but it'll wear down eventually, and dull out. Bad thing is, it's only been a couple months since I put the damn pulley on, and it killed the first belt. I'm going to check on the new one every week, and see how much it's eating away at it. Needless to say, my engine is now 100% silenced:) And all you can hear is my muffler...it's something new for me it seems...having a totally quiet engine. Just keep an eye on the crank/alternator belt, because the UR pulley will eat through it like nothing.:mad:

Maybe you should hit it real quick with something slightly abrasive to just take the sharpness off of those inner ridges. Im talking very slightly here, just so they are not like knives.

I put the recommended belts in and never had a problem. Mine wasn't as sharp as you described. You may have just gotten a bad pulley.

I also installed ur's complete pulley set and have experienced no problems, unless you consider more power a problem

Id just take a bench grinder and very carefully grind off the sharp edge and then take a file and smooth off the inner and outer edge and you should be fine.
