I've read the other post on where the UR's crankpulley put out some more power, but can someone explain to me how it would give the car more power?

Is it because of it's lighter weight or something? But lightening that little pulley isn't going to give you more power is it?

Thanks

For every pound lost off the crankshaft, you get 2.2HP, according to UR. Less rotating mass, and less inertia to push against. They also underdrive the accessories. The pulley is smaller than the stock one, so it drives the accessories at a lower speed, which frees up some power. Very noticable difference, unless you drive around with your AC on all the time :)

How hard is it to install this pulley?

Anyone with minor mechanical skill can do it in under an hour.

yeah its very easy. If you can replace the belts you can change the pully.

You need 2 new belts too. They need to be an inch shorter.

How much of a difference are we looking at? Also..the engine I have has alot of miles on it..will it harm anything being that I have high miles?

Best person to ask in Ginsu, but I know I am going to get one, I am half way done with my turbo kit, and that is one of my items I have in it.

I just ordered one. when it gets here, it's going in my car, pronto! :D

Noticable difference. Maybe 7-10HP depending on the car. More for turbo motors. Doesn't cause any problems with older motors. Heavy right foot might cause some problems though :D

Yeah, I figure since the car is getting all sorts of work done to it right now I might as well take the plunge. Mostly just maintenance stuff. New Exaust system for example. The exaust is staying stock to keep the tourqe up in the engine and I'm not modding the air intake system either or adding a turbo. Mostly the car is going to stay in stock condition. I just want to add a few things to give it a little more punch.

Does anyone know the exact MSD SCI ignition system that works with our 1.8L engines? I'm not sure if this (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=search.asp%3FType%3Dbykeyword%26Part%3DMSD%20SCI%26Search.x%3D1%26SearchType%3DBo th) is the right one or not.

well, I say I'm not going to do any other mods in the future, but I don't know. The bug has been kind of kicking into high gear lately! Damn that right foot of mine! ;)

PN 7000, I think. Haven't tried it yet, but distributor ignition systems are pretty simple.

Hmmm, thanks, I'll have to look into that! :) Sounds like a pretty easy install as well!

So I sent MSD Ignitions a message asking about the PN 7000 and they wrote this to me.

Dear Sir,

Some vehicles may see more over all improvements than others, there are
too
many variables that determine the amount of horsepower or performance
gains
you will see. To obtain the best performance when installing an MSD
ignition
unit it is recommended to go with a colder spark plug and open the plug
gap
in .010 to .020" over stock. There are different situations where the
MSD
unit will work fine, by increasing performance and fuel economy.
Although
you will come to some application, that the MSD unit will not increase
performance, this is due to engine itself. The more modification done
to
the engine the more efficient the MSD unit will be. If the engine is
stock,
and is fuel efficient as is, you will not see much gain in a new engine
or
stock. However as the engine ages with mileage or the more
modifications
done to the engine such as increase in compression, air intake, exhaust
and
using different fuels, like nitrous and other exotic fuels, this is
where
your engine will require an increase in spark energy, and this is where
the
MSD unit comes into play. A more powerful option for an ignition
system
over the Stacker ignition is the MSD DIS-2 ignition control part number
6211. The DIS-2 will require an 8912 tach adapter along with it.
