OK, here is the situation. I'm working on my car right now and I was getting ready to remove my flex pipe. Well, the entire exaust has been on my car since I bought it, over sixty thousand miles ago and where all the parts come join, it's all rusted together. I called around, to a few auto parts places and got some quotes for OEM exaust parts. I allready have the exaust system from the manifold back to the cat, but I'm thinknig about replacing everything.

Here's the deal. Every quote I've gotten is over $400. I've called my cousin, who works for a local parts store, who can get me a discount, but it may or may not beat the price of the Pacesetter hi-flow cat and catback exaust system, for around $300 plus gaskets. I'd like to keep my cost as low as possible but I'm not sure that I want to go out and buy a Pacesetter system, since they aren't the best onesout there and I've heared that they don't last. Is this true?

What would you do?

Well, I've decided to go with a stock setup.

Having the parts all rusted together is normal. One of the byproducts of the combustion process is water vapor. An aftermarket setup will cost about the same as the stock one, if not much less.

Yeah, I realise that. I guess I was just trying to think, if buying an inexpensive aftermarket performance kit was worth it or not. OEM parts usually last much longer then aftermarket parts, from my experiences, so I think I will spend that little bit extra for the OEM parts.

I've heared good and bad things about the Pacesetter system and wasn't sure if I really wanted to buy one or just spend the cash on a good OEM setup.

Oh yeah, the exaust system is in ok shape but I don't feel like ripping it all apart, possibly six months down the road, because the rust has become terminal. I mean, the old exaust system has lasted me quite some time. I've been driving the car for almost three years and this is the first bit of exaust work I've had to do. Never had that kind of luck with any other car I've ever owned.

Ok, here's an update for those interested. I've spoken with my cousin and he can get me everything I need for $385 with a lifetime warenty. I plan on keeping this car for sometime so it's well worth it to me. :)

you might look into a stock 1g turbo FWD exaust, they are higher flowing and look stock, that and they can be had...if you can find them...for cheap

just a little food for thought
