Since a turbo 1.6 manifold would fit our 1.8 do you think another 1.6nt header would fit also? Plus I called aguy about custom rods and pistons, and said the 1.8 mirage rods are the same just have a different part # anybody know anything about this?

Alright, remind me why you would switch to a 1.6 header? Anyways, I think he ment to say the 1.6 G32B Turbo has the same rods as the 4G37, also has the same crank with identical part numbers. Part numbers are supposed to match, if they don't match, usually they aren't the same part in one way or another.
I would go get custom headers done if you want them done, but it won't be cheap.

the reason why is because at one time there where aftermarket header for the 1.6L NT mirage. If they bolt up I wouldn't have to worry about getting custom ones made.

It's "header"...one, singular, not plural...only one header is required for an i-4. But he's right, just get one fabbed, or extrude hone the exhaust manifold...or, you can send it to jet-hot to get it coated. they sandblast the manifold, and clean out the inside, and coat it, making for better airflow, and keeping temperatures down. They quoted the 1.8L exhaust manifold at $95.00 for me. You have to take care of shipment as well though;)

Dude a 1.6L would have small runners dude, I know they would. So I would just work on that 1.8L Manifold you have, get it nicely honed, and you would have a pretty good upgrade from that. Do intake manifold, Intake, and Exhaust manifold with a Cat-back and then you would see the difference. Usually if you only do one of the VE mods, not all of them, the power upgrade isn't very noticable. I would do all of that to hope to get any hp upgrade out of it.

what would you do with the intake manifold? what about the throtttle body? as far as sending the exhaust manifold to jet hot, about what would shipping cost? do they have a website? all ive done so far is injen intake and catback.....

Intake manifold, you would extrude hone it, and the throttle body you could maybe open the mouth on it alittle more, but I doubt it.

I have an idea for a header on mine I was going to buy a used 2.0L NT header and take it to a local metal shop with a 1.8L manifold and have them make a new flange for the header that is made to match the 1.8L head. I have a local shop here that told me they would fab and weld the new flange for $40 that included coating the header.
The whole process would include cutting the old 2.0 flange off of the header. They would use the 1.8L manifold for a generic template, just to get the holes correct. then they would weld the new fabbed flange to the header coat it and I would take it home for a trial fit.
The whole idea sounds pretty decent. Going this way you should be able to pick up a pacesetter header used for $50 and up I sold mine for $75, Bummer, and then the $40 to the shop to make the flange you could be looking at getting one done for $90.
This may be a bad idea but the measuring I have done so far I believe it would work and it has to flow better then a factory manifold. Just a thought.

The header needs to be matched to the engine. What makes it work is not just the size of the runners, but the TIMING of the pulses. The lengths of the runners are constructed such that the pulses will bounce around in a certain way that will draw a vacuum at the exhaust valve at the exact moment it opens.

So my idea would probably not work. This was just a thought that I had and was thinking about doing. Thought it might work for a cheap header.
