I own a 93 talon DL, yes im rockin the 1.8L :D

anyways, ive developed a loud ticking sound, it is really loud at idle and it quiets down just a little bit once it warms up, but it never goes away, i already searched and found one thread on it

im low on funds and im wondering if the lash adjusters will damage my engine if i leave them as they are, i would really like to avoid tearing up my valvetrain until the summer time

ive already gone from 10w-30 to 20w-50 to see if that made a difference, as well i added wynn's lifter cleaner, but that didint quiet them down

if anyone could help id appreciate it

Try seasrching for "Noisy Lifters". Bet that 'll turn up something.

Yes and no. The ticking sound you hear is the impulse load of the rocker smacking the top of the valve stem. Short term damage will be minimal but it's not good. And eventually, you'll wear the rocker and valve stem down to the point where even new lifters won't cure the ticking. Running 50W oil is probably doing more damage than good. Go back to 30W and try Marvel Mystery Oil. If that doesn't help the ticking, you'll need to replace the lifters. They're about $8.00 each from Talahassee mitsubishi (they'll ship them to your door) and you'll need a set of 8 to do a complete change.

The dealer will sell them to you individually. The lifters don't wear evenly - strange, but true. If you can't afford to change them all, order a few and just change the ticking ones for now (usually the 4 on the exhaust side wear out first). The dealer RARELY has a full set anyway.

Ask for Jeremy in parts.

i got mine for right at under 10.00 a piece.... and im not sure if youve done it before, bit you dont have to take everything apart to fix it... usually you can lift up the little hold down enough to where the old lifters will fall out, and you can just stick the new ones up in there.... took me and a buddy about 30 minutes from valve cover off to back to running

thanks for the info

i was just hoping i could hold off until the summer so i could do everything...but if its going to cause probs then i should get it done as soon as possible

i also heard that new lifters carry bigger oil holes for better lubrication...do all dealers have these new ones or do i have to specifically ask for the updated ones?

i got my lifters at advance auto parts... when i compared my old ones to my new ones, the holes did appear a little bigger, but my ticking stopped regardless, so i was happy... mine were doing the same thing yours were, but it eventually got so loud (no matter what kind of oil or oil treatment i used) that i was embarassed to drive the dang thing.

My JDM does it... time to invest in a set for a motor thats going to be replaced with 2.0 turbo eventually.
