anyone ever build a custom CAI (Cold Air Intake) rather then buying one? If so, do you have any info and pics? I tried searching and couldn't fine any info that helped me.
BTW, I just ordered my Pacesetter catback today! With any luck I will have it by this weekend and install it along with everything else I'm doing.

i'm in the proces of biulding one right know. its just a cheap one. i don't have any pics thought but i can tell u how i am doing. i am making somthing like the air can but is alot lighter and it has a hole in the back so i can stick a tube or whatever in and run it to the front of the car where it has those duc things and hook the tube on that. i guess u could call it a cai or ram air. somthing that works but cheap.

im making this one this week:

but i dont trust those 3 clips to hold the filter on the pipe, so i guess ill put 4 screw or so around the perimeter to screw into the filter cover, then clamp down on the mas very tight so it doesnt pop off if i go over a large bump!
huge boost in performance over my extremely restricted stock intake

i was going to do it like yours but then i heard u could get brake dust , water if u hit a pedle and anything that could fly off the tire, so thats why i moved away from that section. ill try by this friday to get pics but i can't promise it. srry

if u go to thje very end, the guy makes an aluminum sheet that covers the back where that flimsy cover is, nothing is going to bounce off the tire and hit it
as for the front...well its just like any car with a cai, u gotta risk it, u can put some sort of mesh up in the bumper, to prevent large objects from flying in, but nothing much else, and i doubt water can get in, unless ur slammed and u drive into a lake ;)

if i put a sheild there then i'm going to do it like yours it would be alot easier then. ill put it in the fender but i think i might still just run a tube from that duc thingy and just have the tube stop at the air filter so i could get more air going to it. thanx that sounds alot easier than what i was going to do.

this is the exact link in case u were curious

the only thing im scared of is the mas/filter seperating fron the intake pipe since it is danging there, im thinking i will secure some wires from screws in the filter/mas up the the engine bay and wrap them around something...that way in case it pops off i wont lose it, it will just dangle there :D

This looks like a sweet idea, and im assuming this works with the 1.8L but my question is will it actually be ram air with all the tubbing it has to travel through before it gets to the intake? And is there somewhat of a difference between doing the tubbing to the finder or just hacking the air can?
Just a thought!

if u hack the air can u wil be sucking in hot air from the engine bay, by placing the filter outside u will be sucking in cold air, plus at highway speed ur getting cold air sucked into ur filter at like 70 mph :D

But will it be able to suck the air that far alll the way up there, efficiently, i mean it sounds good at 70mph but what about at 30...im not trying to say your wrong i just wanna be sure before i go cuttin shit and all that.

Will the MAS wires reach to the intake where you have it?
