Ok so i changed my lifters on my 1.8L, lets just say that some guides were a little misguiding lol
ok so take off the two 10mm screws by the timing belt, then start on the 12mm screws holding the rocker assembly over the camshaft, work from the outside in, in a circular pattern
like this:
1 5 7 3
2 6 8 4
make sure to do a little of each bolt at a time in order to let the springs release tension slowly or else ur looking at some springs flying somewhere!!!!!!!
after u take all that off, u have to take off the timingt belt cover :(, there are 4 bolts holding that in, they are either 10mm or 12 i forget
once u take that off, look between the cam gear, and u will see two tiny screws, take those off, it took me 30 min trying to determine what else was holding the rocker arm assembly on!
take this off NOTE: DO NOT DROP THEM INTO THE LOWER TIMING BELT COVER OR ELSE U WILL HAVE TO TAKE THAT OFF TOO
now ease the rocker arm assembly off the camshaft slowly andtake it off about 2 cm, and let someone elsetake out the lifters from the rocker heads, take care not to drop them into the oil passages of the head!
pour oil into a bowl and put all the new lifters in it, let them sit for a bit, then get a piece of wire and stick it into the oil until u hear it click into something then collapse the lifter and turn it upside down, while pumping it to get out excess oil
once ur done that, put the new lifters into the rocker head and place everything back down, then reverse all the procedures mentioned above
once u torque everything down, pull the MPI fuse from ur positive batt terminal, and crank the engine for a good 30 seconds
put that back in, and start er up, it will be very loud, go out for a testdrive, keeping the rpm at 3000, after about 10-15 min, the sound will go away and they will be silent!!!
i hope this helps everyone!
take care
