Ok, we all know that the biggest one has to be that our engine is non-valve interference and of course the fuel economy. But what other things can be said about them?

Now if we just had a bit more power we could take advantage of this trait. ;) Something I'm trying to take care of. :)

I don't know. In my area I see a lot of 1.8L's. Usually you can tell because of the 14" rims.:o

My 1.8 has been rediculously reliable! after 150,000 hard driven miles, it has had ONE breakdown, and that was only a sensor gone bad.

I wish I could say the same. I've had a few little hickup here and they. The only major thing being that I needed a new toque converter last fall. :(

The engine bay, very spacious. It's easy to work on when the time comes. But then again, I've never done anything major. I just wish the motor had more power. :(

Bite off me all you want. If I didn't want more people to follow me, I wouldn't have posted the FAQ. Just don't take this route...

LOL!! I see that you're still sore about all of this. Just keep working on your car and forget about that guy. IMO its not worthy or healthy to keep this up since you're just going to give him more motives to haunt you. Try ignoring him for a while to see how things go. Just my $0.02...;)

I just thought of one that makes a 1.8 semi-cool if its breaking down alot kinda like mine wants to, at least the motor isn't as complex as the 2.0's and is alot easier to work on.

When our timing belt snaps, we just have to replace that, not 10 other things as well :)

1. Lower insurance premiums.
2. The parts are cheaper (example: compare ECU price for a 1.8 versus a 2.0 AWD Turbo).
3. It still LOOKS SPORTY/FAST.
4. You can drive the shit out of it knowing that it's cheap to fix compared to an AWD (see #2). lol
5. you can rev it really high and drive the shit out of it without crashing, because it's NOT too fast )downshifting into corners and keeping the RPM's up if you have a MT)
6. It's not a HONDA!
7. It's cheap to buy the car (I paid $1600 for mine)
(even someone working at McDonald's can afford to buy this car)
8. You get to be the "black sheep" at the DSM Club Events(different IS good) .
9. You can just save the thousands of dollars you would be putting into modding your 2.0 into something worthwhile (like buying a house, paying off debt, saving for college, or to start your own business).
10. Lower cost of ownership...Less complicated and expensive parts (turbo, rear differentials, timing belt breaks you need a new engine (w/2.0), etc..)
11. Easier to troubleshoot (kind of ties in with 10).
And the other things you guys have already mentioned:
12. Better fuel economy
13. More room in engine compartment
14. If the timing belt breaks it is OK, just replace it.
See the 1.8 is actually a better value then a 2.0, either NT or Turbo!
How much money would you save by buying a 1.8 instead of an AWD Turbo (assuming you keep your car for just 3 years, and do no mods on the 1.8)?
Original purchase price difference
(1.8 for $2000, AWD for $4000): $2000
Insurance(saving $50 a month, just liability): $1800
Fuel (8 miles a gallon over the Turbo engine): $739
Mods (don't do on the 1.8, compared to if
you modded out a 2.0 turbo to the "max"
(400HP), assuming you DID ALL YOUR OWN
LABOR, otherwise double this amount): $5000
Speeding tickets (everyone will vary in this
dept., lets' just say 1 speeding ticket): $150
Expensive parts that you would have to
replace on a high-mile AWD, you don;t have
to on the 1.8:
Turbo (labor NOT included): $500
Timing belt (with labor, more expensive
on a turbo car, if you go to mitsu,
they ream you, includes balance shaft belt
and water pump): $1000
Total saving of: $11,189
Even if you did not mod the 2.0, you would still save about
$5000
This also does not take into account if the timing belt broke on a 2.0, how much that could cost to repair.
The 1.8 car virtually pays for itself...............:)
Can you tell I'm a salesperson? ;)
