Question Procarparts.com/ DSMtrader/e-bay questions.

After looking for some things online , i found very cheap DSM parts at www.procarparts.com. I did a search in DSMtalk about procarparts and had some people in here saying good things and others saying they got ripped off from them.Anyone else in here dealt with these people? Good experiences or bad? Also i was wondering if i buy something from someone in the trader,What keeps them from keeping my money after i send them a money order etc.? They could just keep my stuff, right? Anyone know how to keep from getting rippd off besides goodguybadguy.org? Just curious as to you guys buy off e-bay and the trader all the time and not get ripped. Thanks, Travis

I have bought items from procarparts.com and I was pleased. their pricing was good and the parts that I bought work well. I purchased clear marker lights, projector headlights, indiglo gauges, cone filter and mas air adapter. Everything was reasonable in price and works great. My only complaint is that the covers on the back of the head lights came off but that was an easy fix. Everything else is great.
As for buying on the trader it is a risk I believe. I do it but I question the sellers frequently and I am real persistant. As for ebay, that is the safer way of buying parts. Ebay usually has companies like procarparts.com selling goods at better prices than their site. I hope this helps. Good luck with you modifications...

If you are planning to buy on dsmtrader.com, make sure you ask for C.O.D if it's over $100. It will cost more for shipping but you will know what you are getting before you pay for it. Buying from ebay, procarparts.com, etc, try to get paypal, billpoint, etc so that you can file for a complaint if you don't get what you pay for and it's also insured for a certain amount.

I won a item on ebay and payed using paypal $270 and emailed the person numerous times and he claimed he was going to send the item each time. Well I finally reported him to ebay, they suspened him and then reported to paypal and they investigated. A week later paypal said they found him 100% at fault and gave me a full refund. I am very pleased with the way they handled it and I still use them to this day. I also reported him to a fraud agency for internet fraud, which the goverment handles in the end.

NEVER send payment off to someone without doing extensive research FIRST, OR, using www.escrow.com . If you want to buy a part from an individual over the internet there is an extra hidden price. That hidden price is in the time spend in research FIRST, or the expense of paying for the escrow service. Don't want to do research first? Don't want to pay escrow service fees? Thats understandable. Then you have only two options... (1) buy the part new from a reputable dealer. (2) send off your money and run a HIGH risk you will get ripped off. Period.

Since YOU assume the risk associated with internet trading, it makes sense to follow a few suggestions:
  • Use an escrow service (ie: "Escrow.com")
  • Get FULL name, address, phone number
  • Get references, and verify them
  • Ask if your trader has any local club affiliations
  • Call on the phone at an unannounced time
  • Use an escrow service
  • Use an escrow service
  • Use an escrow service
I have bought on DSM Trader many times and have not been ripped yet. If the seller does not want to use an escrow service (I offer to pay the escrow fee), then the only way the deal is going to happen is if I get FULL name, email address, phone number, address, and references. I verify the name, address, and phone number at switchboard.com. I call the seller on the phone to verify the details of the transaction. I verify each reference. I check local dsm sites to see if their name is listed (use google to find them). You have to do ALL of these things, not just a couple. Free email addresses like hotmail and yahoo, for the seller and/or references, lower my confidence level substantially. If the seller does not have the patience for this... end of deal.

Yes, it is a lot of work. That's why the price should be cheaper. If you do not want to spend the time (and recently I can not), you buy it new from a well-known reputable establishment.

As far as Ebay, do not bid on an item unless the seller has a star. No star? Don't bid. Forget about sellers with the shades next to their name, they just changed their username and thats a red flag. Check the feedback. If there are any negatives (even if they have a star) don't bid... unless you make the judgement that the negative is from some immature user just out to f someone up.

I was just about to explain about escrow, and all that stuff but WhoaTed pretty much covered EVERYTHING.
